Day two. Iv`e put a lot of the characters in which takes time . It`s very busy now and the Flowers are not right. I painted them from another painting which I now regret. So I`ll have to do them again with my own eyes. Also the blue square on the left doesn`t work as a colour .May change that to a postcard.  The table needs attention it just doesn`t work with three things going on like that and the Black jug.
It`s a process of trial and error.
It would be nice to put something on the table I havn`t already done. I may have to do some drawing.
Looking for balence and simplicity.

A common mistake for me is to paint to please the Galleries or to paint to sell. I have to do it of course or I`ll go bust but its a secret, even from me. I`ve struggled with this painting all morning trying to please and then I woke up and listened to my thoughts and that driving madman that cracks the whip. Then I started to paint for the pleasure of painting like a child and it magically unfolds. The people on the right is where it all started to take shape.
3 pm now and I have to finish to clean up the House and get to Mor risons as I am cooking for guests.

Just got into the studio for a couple of hours. I am working on three canvases from the new canvas that arrived before Christmas from Bird and Davies. Top quality Linen. Trying not to have any pre conceived ideas of what I am painting and just paint and have fun, Certainly not paint regionally or locally which is always on my mind to paint.,thats St Ives and Cornwall etc...  Its always a struggle finding subject matter and pretty much always what I think I`ll paint the brush has other ideas. So let it out and have fun . Then struggle because it`s not what you thought.   Often its rubbish and you have to climb out of the pit which is the bit I really love .When theres knowhere to go but up! .Thats when the majic happens. You are at your keenest  because something has to happen! .You have to rescue the mess and make something out of nothing and that inner urgency wakes you up and stirs you into action.        Cool stuff painting !

Jubilee Pool Penzance

I started this and thought it`s going to be very busy and fiddly. No way around that really so I have just continued in the hope it all might work. It`s Jolly and is coming on.It is of the Jubilee Pool here in Penzance which is an Art Deco outdoor pool, `thats seawater` and is just fab to swim in in the summer.

Managed to get the studio warm and draftproof  and spent a hour in there today .Don`t know what to paint really so just tinkering.
Sete was one of my first really successfull paintings. I used to paint solely acrylic on paper then.so all my paintings were glazed which I liked because I thought it gave the work an added dimension but customers started to complain that the reflection was annoying so I changed to canvas.

Preparing for work to go out in the Spring. Here is a picture of Sella from when we lived in Spain.
