Wednesday 19 September 2012

I am really  loving painting this.  The cobalt blue I use for the sea and distance is expensive and I had to gasp at the price. but there is no alternative.cheaper student quality or Alkyd just doesn`t have the same punch.

These two are now finished and ready to go to London.

This is a great little start. I`m going on to an oil based canvas. An expensive one from Bird and Davies in London and have lightly prepared the ground in Raw Umber but very little so it`s just off white. The canvas has a superb tooth to it . It has to dry now for the second sitting. These are easy to screw up  so it has to be done patiently the beauty of it is the oil on the fresh canvas so if you make a mistake at this stage you have to rub it off with turps and it just gets messy and looses the freshness.

Nearly done. Just got to finish off the Sea
Oh!! I LOVE THIS!!   Just need to add something on the left in the rose area, maybe some musical notes. Not sure Yet!!
This is another Marrakech that I started. I started it in very pale colours and glazed over it with Carmine and Burnt Umbe with Liquin so it dried fast and had a glossy finish.. It`s coming along very nicely and the paint quality is very pleasing. To me this is very exciting and everything oil painting is all about. Giving a visual delight to the eye. I am not trying to make you think. Just the opposite. The language is colour and paint.

Thursday 13 September 2012

Currently in dialogue with Blackheath Gallery in Blackheath for there Christmas Exhibition. I will do a couple of still life's , a Marrakech and maybe a harbour scene. Here is the first day on the Marrakech painting. I have at least half a dozen paintings on the go at any one time. All drying and waiting for attention or just figuring out in my head how to take the next step with them       I`d put this on my wall!

Tuesday 11 September 2012

Who am I pleasing. My customers or myself.

I am painting pictures that will go on my walls.

There is a space there for , and I imagine in my head what will go there, the colours, blues or greens or darks or monotone greys.

 That's the excitement.
With the remains of the oil on my palette yesterday.in the last half  hour of the working day I started this. Been working on it this morning. 58x64 cms  I really am throwing caution to the wind. You never know when I will have a relapse. Trying not to be so critical of the marks I make and accepting them . This seems to be working. I`ll not touch this until tomorrow or the day after when the oil has settled.

Monday 10 September 2012

I do seem to be swinging from dark gloomy paintings to colourful cheerful work. I do apologise to anyone who is wondering what on earth is going on. I cant explain it. Maybe I get depressed and then when it`s over I burst out.
                                                                       Nearly there.
OOOOh! Its looking scrummy. Looking foreward to embelishing the lily.
This last oil is a commision. Ive been on it for a couple of days now. Oil on canvas 16x16 .

Sunday 9 September 2012

Finished! Oil on Board 100x100cms. Although it might need a bit more on second thoughts.

This is really coming along nicely.I`m just loving working with this colour again...
