Although I have sold two darker pieces recently the two I put in Auction have not sold so a bit disapointed that I find selling to the Cornish difficult.
Oh well .! Have to push on ...
Back to work today and continuing with the Landscape around St Just.

having a lovely break in Brighton .We went to Cuban Salsa last night with a Bachata and a Rueda workshop. Packed with really superb dancers all doing the same moves I learnt years ago .Only better. Got home late. Off to Rye tomorrow to see Family then back to Brig hton to see a Caberet on Thursday "yes". Not done any drawing as misty and cold but saw Cristopher Corr paintings at Castor Pollux gallery on the sea front. Really good.

This is my final flurry of work before I take a break .I`ve been working on this painting that was done from a drawing I did some time ago of St Just. It`s very green. An unusual colour for me. Maybe thats why I like it. .
I put in lots of figures having coffee and sharing talk in the Cafe but my gut reation told me to take them out.

It is probably best if I don`t try and explain this except you never know where the b

rush will take you!

The Faces are not right yet but making progress. The womans orange dress on the left for example with some light and shade makes a difference and I am pleased with this

. Also I realize I need some different brushes than my usual brushes . Its coming on but still not there. For it to be presentable it has to be pristine in its paintwork .Exact in the detail and the composition has to be correct. In other words for painting to be good has has to be perfect. A small order.!

Thursday 10 February 2011

Today I have decided to give myself a break and work on some figure paintings. For practice only to see what works and what does not and of course to try and get the skin tones right. .Which I havn`t even started on yet . but I am working at it!!

Monday 7 February 2011

I havn`t finished my Salsa painting yet. I can see some arms that need moving.Other than that it`s finished.
Ive started a new Newlyn blocky painting. These are really hard to do as there are so many little blocks of colour next to each other you have to leave it and come back to see what your doing with fresh eyes and to find ways to tie it all together convincingly. I don`t subscribe to the "painting is theraputic" camp. I find it stressful. Your working away trying to get lost in it and be natural .Waiting for some magic to happen and at the same time trying to organise the shapes and colours and hope your getting it right.. Its a balancing act.Any way here it is. I expect it to change as the days go by.

Thursday 3 February 2011

There are a lot of things that need correcting in this picture and then theres the question `Well is it really and Alan Furneaux?` but I am pleased with my progress.

Wednesday 2 February 2011

I have not enjoyed painting iether of these last two Landscapes. It has been a struggle and a chore. So I have gone back to the Salsa dancing painting and I feel much better. I`ll post the trial paintings soon. In the meantime here is one of the nearly finished Landscapes

working on a 40x40 inch landscape of Padstow although it looks more like Italy at present. The other Padstow painting has been such a struggle I am not showing it just yet. Ive overworked it.
