Marie`s Flowers

I have to own up . The idea for this came from a painting I saw of Marie Johsson-Harrison, an absolutely fabulous Naive painter from Australia. I saw her pic of flowers and thought ." I like that" " I`ll paint flowers today". It is not the same obviously , there are no cats or birds or stars in hers, but the idea is similar. Sorry Marie. I don`t make a habbit of pinching other peoples ideas and I hope it is different enough so make it mine. I have painted flowers many times before but not with so much detail which attracted me . Infact you can see Marie painting called `Potted Permume` on the link below

I am really enjoying painting this. It is an unexpected surprize for me. The cats are new for me . The one on the right I am now pleased with now

and was painted light to dark. The one on the left will need work and was painted dark to light.

I don`t believe i`ve just put a cat in one of my paintings.!!.Not finished. just resting for now!!I `ll probably make the Cat bigger.
Started this tree . might put some birds in it? or something. Its one of those paintings that you continue with but are unsure.
Had a lovely day in St Ives on Sunday. We went for a swim and then mucked about on the beach and had a look at the art galleries and shops. This is Lorraine on the left and my daughter Alana on the right. My girls.

Mt Jesus picture is coming on.
Been working on this for the last two days. Putting in detail after detail and changing the sky colour 6 times.

Sometimes you produce images that just roll off the brush. You have no idea where they come from they just appear. Well this is one of those. It is a Religeous painting. I have never to date painted a successful Religeous painting and I expect the reason is because although I am a Christian, my relationship with the church has never been happy. A struggle for sure. Any way I keep on trying.
Ear ache has gone thank God! This is a slightly more refined version of the last painting. A little Fedden-

I have had an ear ache all day. Really stabbing. I think I picked it up from the swimming pool at Newquay. Not much you can do about this sort of thing except ride it out with painkillers. But can`t work effectively.

Also having delivered work to the Drang Gallery and White Space Art I feel I have come to an end of a creative period and need to take time off while I wait for the next beginning. I have two more dealines that need to be completed by the end of the month. Four paintings should do it. I`m off drawing tomorrow and will be posting my exploits.

This is difficult to photograph as it is dark. The light on the water really works and it is minimalist with just a single boat passing through. I like this feel. I just need to work on the trees at the bottom or maybe a couple walking and that might be it. Still exploring this bleak colour pallette
Interesting how this has developed. Black is such a lifeless colour and yet when it is mixed with other colours it makes it deep and sombre.

Has been a struggle this week. Going over old ground. Hate myself hate what I do. Just can`t seem to shake it.

Mondays!!!!!! I have transfered to oil today. I am using Liquin to help them dry ( working on three paintings at the same time)

and putting them in the Greenhouse to Bake dry. An hour in there usually means I can work on them as long as the sun is shining. We have a crisp early spring sun this morning so ideal. Still staying with the darker colours . A little concerned they might be a bit samey .So I might need some more subject matter soon. Here is todays offerings.

I`ll have to do the cows some other time. Here is the finished version. I hope!

Tuesday, 1 March 2011

As you can see this is my favourite subject right now. This is a monster 40x40 inch, I didn`t like it when I first started but kept on going, because sometimes you have to and I rather like the sombre tones. Especially the G

rey sky. I am working on this in little chunks while I do other work.I would like to find some cows so I can sketch them and replace the ones I have sketched in.
