studio painting of Newlyn

Well this is nearly there. Its been a good painting day.I`ll live with it for a while and see what needs doing with fresh eyes. Maybe some people or the odd dog or even another fishing boat in the water on the left to give it some life.

Style and Plein air Painting

Plein air painting is something I have been doing all Summer. I started because a very good friend of mine Colin Ruffel see crabfish.com invited me to do so. I was against it at first as I had tried it before and found it a distraction from the studio painting and limiting as you only paint what is in front of you. In the studio is were I have worked best and have painted my finest works and were I find the creative potential in working from memory to my liking. Now I also like Plein air painting in fact I love it but the style is different. The trouble is lots of people paint in this style and to be Exhibiting in top London Galleries. Which I am, you have to be different and stand out from the crowd.I have managed to do this by painting bold sometimes blocky semi abstracted paintings which come out of me very naturally.Their very colourful and strong. In real life colours are not strong often there grey and muted. And this is the dilemma I am in. Am I a muted grey person or a strong bold person.Trouble is I like them both .I can see life in both .... to be continued

Sandy Cove

Working on the Sandy Cove paintings again this is larger 70x80cm on canvas.

Sandy Cove

Went out to my Favourite place .Sandy Cove. Following on from my last painting which has Palette knife work in the foreground I wanted to try this out again. I wasn`t out for long but managed to produce this. You might think that I am jumping about a bit from style to style but I am hoping this will all settle down . .

messy place

Nothing really to show you today. I am in a messy place. Ideas are bubbling up and the canvases get messier and messier. That's how it is and it is a familiar place. When I have something to show you I will but right now... I need to splash around. I`m posting this pic of a previous picture that I can see has two halves the bottom and the top and I may paint the top half as shown as a separate picture as it looks pretty good and it will give me something to do while I am between things. so to speak..

I wish it was easy

Still splashing about like a fish in a net. Went completely of piste today and painted this very brief oil thing. The trouble is the coffee. When ever I drink coffee before 11 am I am like a freaked out creature on caffeine all jittery and speedy.Thing is I love coffee. `illy` being my favourite but my Art suffers. I wish is was easy... Its 6 pm now so I`m going to cook and have a glass of wine. Simon our next door neighbour is a Fisherman and brought a great bucket of fish over.

This is my 4th day on this picture. The reds in the table and the vase and Flowers in the previous painting didn`t separate out very well when hung on the wall .It all just looked the same so I`ve had to work on it this morning and It`s nearly done .As I am typing I can see the picture in the frame and have an urge to turn down the orange . .I`ve left the landscape which is fine and kept the Luscious Reds .

Godrevy Dark

Made a start on a small 26x26cm canvas again using Prussion Blue;my new found colour. Slowly slowy, simple and dynamic.

Gig Racing in Marrazion.

Also completed this larger version of Gig Racers at Marazion. this is 70x80cms on canvas. It`s quite pale but looks lovely.

Today I didn`t want to go into my studio I really didn`t. I denied myself coffee until I finished these pieces. Mean old me! and now at 12am I have finished. ( I`ve been working late into the night to get these finished) . Now I want to go into town and get some toothepaste Glucosomine and a second cup of coffee while I watch the world go by as a reward

Marigot St Martins

Finished another Painting of the beautiful Carribean Island of St Martin .I went there some time ago now and am still painting it.Tricky this because the top one is the finished version yet I rather like the bottom one .

Porthminster Beach

And here it is tweaked a little here and there with Lorraine in the foreground. A part of me say`s this is a little Corny but another part of me likes it and that`s the part I listen too!

St Ives Luggers

And these wonderful and typical St Ives Luggers came out of the Harbour .

Plein air again

The weather has turned and I have been out Plein air painting at Porthminster Beach in St Ives with Lorraine my wife taking a dip in the Sea. That's her in the foreground with the blonde hair. This again is the un-edited pic so I`ll work it a little in the studio later as were now off to Sennen to go surfing with my two children. I won`t be surfing though .

David Curzon Gallery

All my paintings have now gone off to the framer to be framed for my London Show. Its such a big investment because my Framer in Sussex is the best and they are not cheap. They will look really stunning though so the break from now till they are in the Gallery will be a nice breather from looking at them all the time and worrying if they are good enough. Here is the Add to go in Galleries Magazine in October.
